Product Specifications Overview -------- The IBM ARTIC960 Support for Frame Relay on Windows NT (hereafter referred to as Frame Relay Support) solution is designed to transport and route IP, SNA APPN and HPR packets across frame relay networks according to RFC 1490 and FRF.3.1 encapsulation standards. It is viewed by the protocol stacks of Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server as a token ring LAN adapter, allowing the use of all Windows NT Client and Server networking facilities. The Frame Relay Support solution is intended for businesses requiring a high-performance T1/E1 wide area network (WAN) solution. It supports up to four adapters per workstation, with up to two ports of Frame Relay protocol per card. Each of the two ports is independently configurable with up to T1 (1,544,000 bps) or E1 (2,048,000 bps) data rates and up to 32 PVCs. When used with the appropriate server software package, this solution will process the Frame Relay protocol on the adapter instead of placing the protocol burden on the host server. It can be used as a replacement of a Frame Relay Access Device (FRAD) or router. The solution is optimized to provide Frame Relay, IP and SNA connectivity to existing telco and private network WAN services. Version History 1.0.0 - Initial Release 1.0.1 - Updates for Sprint Frame Relay certification tests 1.0.2 - Support added for FRF.3.1 (SNA APPN and HPR frames) and fragmented frame relay frames 6. Release Notes 1.0.2: ------ - IBM ARTIC960 Support for Frame Relay on Windows NT (Frame Relay Support) -- 4 cards supported in a system -- 2 ports per card supported -- 32 DLCI's per port supported -- The Frame Relay Support is limited to message sizes of 2048 bytes or less in this release. - IBM ARTIC960 Frame Relay SNMP Support -- The Windows NT SNMP Service will include the IBM ARTIC960 Frame Relay adapters in its list of RFC 1213 interfaces as type 9 (token ring). The information returned in response to requests for RFC 1213 interfaces' objects will reflect information at the system level. Similar objects implemented in the private MIB for the Frame Relay Support will reflect information available at the adapter card level. The ifIndex value assigned to an IBM ARTIC960 Frame Relay adapter in the RFC 1213 interfaces' subtree will not correlate to the index values assigned to the adapter in the private MIB. -- The Windows NT SNMP Service implements only SNMPv1. The SNMP Support provided for Frame Relay Support also only implements SNMPv1. -- The following certifications are pending for this release: - AR Frame Relay Compliance Test and Sprint Frame Relay Compliance tests for Sprint Certification. - AT&T I InterSpan Frame Relay Service Interface Specification Conformance for AT&T certification. - ibmafr.mib MIB File -- The imbafr.mib file defines the private MIB for the IBM ARTIC960 Frame Relay SNMP Support. It was derived from RFC's 1213 and 2115. In cases where the Frame Relay Support implementation of specific MIB objects differs from the RFC, the differences are stated explicitly. The ibmafr.mib has been successfully used as input to Microsoft's MIB compiler mibcc.exe. - FRF.3.1 support (SNA APPN and HPR frames) - fragmented frames support - non-SNAP IP encapsulation 7.
