Each time you turn on the computer, the system prompts you to run System
Setup.  If you have established a password the system prompts you first
to type the password, then to run System Setup.

Ordinarily the computer displays the following message for a couple of
seconds as it starts:

  To run System Setup, press <Ctrl+Alt+Esc> now.

To start System Setup, press <Ctrl+Alt+Esc> while the message is on
screen.  If, instead, you do nothing the computer bypasses System Setup
and continues its start-up routine.

If the computer detects a configurations error, it displays the following
message, then pauses:

  Press <F1> to continue, or <Ctrl+Alt+Esc> to run System Setup.

In this case, either press <Ctrl+Alt+Esc> to start System Setup or press
<F1> to bypass System Setup and allow the computer to continue its start-
up routine.

When you start System Setup, the Main Menu appears.

The System Setup screen is divided into two parts.

The left part on the screen displays the menus and fields you use to run
the program.  the Date and Time fields are available directly form the
Main Menu, but generally you select a secondary menu.  Secondary menus
are listed under the words Advanced Options on the Main Menu.  The
secondary menu contains a list of fields.  Move the cursor to a field
and select a value for it.

The right part on the screen tells you how to use the secondary menus and
fields you select.  This information changes automatically as you make
new selections.

SYSTEM SETUP FIELDS

The following descriptions show the field selections that are listed
under the secondary menus.

Some fields are for reference only and you cannot enter new values in
them.

MAIN MENU

Date and Time: Sets the date and time.  To enter the date, use two-digit
numbers to indicate the month, day, and year (enter 0 before a single-
digit number).  For example, use 062594 to set the date to June 25, 1994.
To set the time use two-digit numbers to represent the hour, minute, and
second.  Use a 24-hour clock.  for example, use 135900 to set the time to
1:59 p.m. and no seconds.

FLOPPY AND BOOT

Floppy-Disk Adapter:  Determines whether the system uses the floppy
controller on the system board.  Do not change this field from Auto
unless you are using an add-in floppy controller that is not functioning
correctly.

Floppy Disk A and Floppy Disk B:  Identify the types of floppy disk for
drives A and B.  The five options are None, 360 KB (5.25"), 1.2 MB
(5.25-inch), 720 KB (3.5"), or 1.44 MB (3.5").

Keyboard Error At Boot:  Determines whether your computer can start
without a keyboard attached.  This is useful in a network environment.
Selecting Ignore enables the computer to start without a keyboard.
Selecting Report as Error prevents it from starting without a keyboard.

Num Lock at Boot:  Determines whether the numeric lock is on or off when
you turn on your system.  This field affects the numeric keys on the
right end of your keyboard.  If you select On At Boot, starting the
system sets these keys so you can use them to enter numbers.  If you
select Off At Boot, starting the system sets these keys for use as cursor
controls.  While your computer is on, you can use the <Num Lock> key to
enable or disable the numeric lock.

Boot Device:  Determines the order in which the system searches for the
boot drive - the drive containing the disk on which your operating system
is installed.  To boot (or start), the system must read information from
that disk.

If you select Try Hard Drive First, the system attempts to start from
drive C first, then A if it cannot start from C.  It tries A before C if
you select Try Floppy First.

POST Testing:  Determines whether the system invokes a normal or an in-
depth POST (Power On Self Test) during boot.  Selecting Normal invokes
diagnostic tests that identify any failed-replaceable units in the
computer.  Selecting In-Depth invokes a broader series of tests that
also check system memory.

Hard-Disk Timeout:  Sets the number of minutes, from 1-16, after which
the hard disk enters power-conversion mode.  IN power-conversion mode,
the hard disk consumes only a small amount of electricity until the next
time the system needs to read the hard disk.  Set this field to 0 minutes
to disable the power-conversion mode.

HARD DRIVES

Hard-Disk Adapter:  Usually, leave this field set to its default, Auto;
the system selects a hard-disk adapters automatically.  If you prefer,
select Integrated to use the on-board adapter or Add-in to use a hard-
disk controls add-in board.

First Hard-Disk Type and Second Hard-Disk Type:  Designate the types of
your hard-disk drives.  The first hard-disk drive type has been set at
the factory; do not change it.

After you install an IDE hard disk, move to the appropriate hard-disk type
field and select Auto.  After you exit System Setup, the system attempts
to identify the drive type.

If you cannot access the drive after you leave System Setup, the system
could not identify the hard disk type automatically.  In that case,
restart System Setup and select User-defined.  Enter drive statistics as
prompted; refer to the drive documentation for specific drive
information.

VIDEO AND MEMORY

Primary Video:  Displays the setting of the system board jumper E4.  If
the setting is not correct (for example, you intend to use an add-in
color video adapter as your primary display adapter, but the Primary
Video field reads Mono), reset system board jumper E4.  This field is
for reference only.

Video Adapter:  Identifies your primary display adapter type.  Valid
types are:  EGA/VGA, for EGA,VGA or built-in VGA; COLOR 80, for CGA;MONO,
for MDA or HGC.

640x480 Mode:  Determines the built-in VGA output frequency for extended
modes.  Options are 60 Hz Non-Interlaced and 72 Hz Non-Interlaced.  Refer
to your monitor documentation to determine which modes your monitor
supports.

800x600 Mode:  Determines the built-in VGA output frequency for extended
modes.  Options are 56 Hz Non-Interlaced, 60 Hz Non-Interlaced, and 72 Hz
Non-Interlaced.

Refer to your monitor documentation to determine which modes your monitor
supports.

1024x768 Mode:  Determines the built-in VGA output frequency for extended
modes.  Options are 60 Hz Non-Interlaced, 70 Hz Non-Interlaced, and 87 Hz
Interlaced.  Refer to your monitor documentation to determine which modes
your monitor supports.

Video Memory Size:  Displays the total amount of video memory installed
in the computer.  This system comes with 512 KB and can be upgraded to
1 MB.  This field is for reference only.

Total Memory Size:  Displays the total amount of RAM installed in the
computer.  This system comes with 4 MB and can be upgraded to 32 MB.
This field is for reference only.

PORTS

Parallel Port Address:  Establishes the I/O address of the parallel port.
Usually, select Auto.  If this setting conflicts with that of another
port in the system , reconfigure the built-in parallel port by selecting
one of the I/O addresses displayed in this field, or selecting Disable.

Parallel Port Type:  Establishes the mode of the parallel port.  Select
Standard to set the parallel port to one-directional, output-only mode.
Select Enhanced to set the parallel port to bidirectional, input/output
mode.

Serial Ports:  Establishes the I/O addresses for the serial ports.
Usually, select Auto.

SECURITY

User Password:  Enables you to set or change a user password.  When in
force, this password restricts access to the computer.  To use the
system, a user must type the password when the computer is restarted
or operates in server mode.

The system comes with the user password feature enabled.  If this field
reads Disabled, then jumper E5 is on.  You must remove the jumper block
from E5, or move the block to pin 2 only, before you can set a password.

Prompt for Setup:  Enables you to display or suppress the prompt to run
System Setup.  When this field is left to the default setting of Display,
the bootup message includes the key combination that you use to run
System Setup.  <Ctrl+Alt+Esc>.  If you set this field to Suppress, the
System Setup key combination no longer appears during bootup.  Regardless
of how this field is set, you can still run System Setup at bootup by
pressing <Ctrl+Alt+Esc>.

SYSTEM INFORMATION

                BIOS:  Displays the revision number of the BIOS in the
                       computer.  This field is for reference only.

 Keyboard Controller:  Displays the revision number of the keyboard
                       controller in the computer.  This field is for
                       reference only.

      Processor Type:  Displays the type of microprocessor installed in
                       the computer.  This field is for reference only.

System Serial Number:  Displays the serial number assigned to the computer
                       at the factory.  This field is for reference only.

           Asset Tag:  Displays the asset tag assigned to the computer.
                       The asset tag is intended for use by system
                       administrators who need to identify systems with a
                       unique stage.  This field cannot be changed from
                       System Setup; it is for reference only.

EXITING SYSTEM SETUP

To exit System Setup, choose the Exit System Setup option from the Main
Menu.  Or, if you are in a secondary menu, select the Exit to Main Menu
options and then select Exit System Setup.  A menu of exit options
appears.

Select Exit and Save Changes or Exit Without Saving Changes, and the
system restarts.  If you want to return to the System Setup window,
select Exit to Main Menu.
