WinMate Tandy 3200 (250-1633) Introduction Faxback Doc. # 3198 The Tandy 3200 comes with WinMate, a program designed to make using Windows easier and more exiting for the whole family. WinMate has four organized visual "desktops" to give you quicker and easier access to your windows applications. You can customize and update WinMate to change its look and content. In Charge lets you access applications for personal productivity- spreadsheets, graphic design, and word processing - and also lets you store information about other WinMate users. In Control has features you might use in a home office, plus tools for backing up and organizing your data files. Inside gives you access to Windows tools, and also provides a demonstration of WinMate capabilities. When you have had enough of the "serious stuff," In Play lets you relax with games such as Solitaire and Minesweeper. You use a mouse to access the different desktops and applications. If you are not familiar with using a mouse, be sure to read "Using Your Mouse." USING YOUR MOUSE Your computer comes with one of the most valuable tools for working with WinMate - a mouse. As you learn to use a mouse, you will find that it speeds up your WinMate tasks. If you have not already connected the mouse to your computer, see your computer user's manual for instructions. Be sure your computer is off before connecting the mouse. If you use a mouse other than the one provided with your computer, use the Windows Setup program to tell Windows what kind of mouse you are using. See your Windows documentation for more information. Making the Mouse Work Using a mouse, you can move around on the screen by pointing, clicking, and dragging. As you move the mouse, the cursor indicates where you are on the screen. The cursor may appear as a highlight, a blinking vertical or horizontal line, or an arrow. Mouse Basics Here are the basic techniques involved in using a mouse: To point: Move the mouse along a flat surface until the top of the pointer (an arrow) is where you want it. To click: Press and quickly release the left mouse button. This moves the cursor to where you are pointing. To double-click: Click the left mouse button twice in rapid succession. This enables you to choose the item at which you are pointing. To highlight text by dragging: Point to where you want to start highlighting and hold down the left mouse button. While holding down the button, move the mouse until you highlight all the information. Then release the mouse button. This enables you to highlight information. To move an object by dragging: Point to the object you want to move and hold the left mouse button. If the object is a window you must point to the strip at the top of the window. While holding down the button, drag the object to where you want it. To resize a window by dragging: Move the arrow to the edge of a window until the arrow changes to a double arrow. While holding down the left mouse button, drag the edge of the window until the window is the size you want.
