Adding a modem to your computer system lets you communicate with other
computers over the phone lines.  This allows you to share information
with other computer users.  With the appropriate software (such as
DeskMate Telecom), you can use the computer as a terminal to a larger
computer system.

It can also connect to on-line services (such as PC-LINK) that offer
computer shopping, news services, electronic mail, encyclopedia
references, stock prices, games, and so on.

You can use an external modem connected to the 9-pin serial port, or an
internal modem installed inside the computer.  Any IBM compatible modem
should work with no problems on the 4033 LX.
