Toy Review: OK, this guy is cool. For some reason, a friend told me he thought it looked like a kiddie toy car, something you'd see with a Tonka or Fischer Price logo stamped into it, but I disagree. Sure, is has plain white plastic with a very simple and blocky design, but the features and transformation make up for it. His Powerlinx features are pretty sweet, including a split-open bumper that reveals a disc shooter under the hood or in his chest in robot mode. On his roof/back there's another Powerlinx that releases a cannon that shoots a claw-like missile and can be detatched and used as a gun. Be careful about detatching it, though, since doing so will likely result in the mount for the weapon spinning forward too far, making it hard to put the gun back on. I made the mistake of trying to spin the mount around an extra turn to make it flip better, and that resulted in the spring getting pulled out of its little hook spot. I finally fixed it, but better safe than sorry. Anyway, in robot mode one hand isn't a hand but a tool of some kind, with two different tools to be placed in it, both of which store in one of his side panels. The other side panel can fold out with a little x-ray/scanner kind of thingy and serve as a "repair bay" of sorts. Longarm, his Minicon, can set there, though it's awkward. With all these features, the icing on the cake are the sounds. He's got a good set of sounds, including a vocal clip. Longarm is a fairly simple little guy, with a big ass crane arm on his back. Unfortunately, his crane arm is pretty much useless in his robot mode. Overall Red Alert is a good toy, well worth the $20 price tag. Other than having to fix the gun mount when I broke it, I have no complaints.

Try not to count how many times I kept asking for RA in December of 2002 all they away until the end on February of 03. I tell you, even if I DID get it the day I went to Knoxville with my Dad and Grandaddy, I thought it was a whole Year before I held that RA Box home. I keep it close. It's easy to Transform and Easy to play. My brother's finding the Claw grabber for me now. so I won't have to yell! Ja ne --Krystalpole ~*~Krys~*~ Age: 15 |

It can be difficult to align the panels when transforming back to vehicle mode and his legs’ range of motion is limited due to those panels and the backpack. Longarm is a strong toy in and of itself and is reminiscent of the Micromasters in his design and transform. |
